My Suicide Suit

My Suicide Suit is one of six short films commissioned this year by Exeter Phoenix Media Centre with support from Devon County Council under the annual bursary scheme.

My Suicide Suit is a story about a young man called Danny Donnelley who has decided to commit suicide because he feels he has no place in world. Danny literally feels invisible as he lives alone and works in a photo lab developing other people’s holiday photos alone, all the time wishing he was in them.

Danny has decided to kill himself and he knows exactley how he wants to do it. He doesn’t want to be found in his flat weeks after he has died because no-one has missed him. He needs to do something special so for once in his life he can stand out from the crowd and finally get noticed. Danny decides he needs to build a suicide suit.

He takes great care in designing the suit to make sure it will get everyone’s attention. It will look like a cross between a cowboy outfit, space suit and an Elvis stage costume complete with fluorescent tassles, Christmas tree lights and a police style flashing light. Danny plans to rocket down the length of a pier on his newly constructed Suicide Bike where a local journalist will wait unaware to catch the event on camera to guarantee everyone will see him go out with a bang.

Danny's planned his suicide down to the finest detail but what he couldn't have planned for was feeling more alive than he has in years and finally finding a reason to live through building his suicide suit.
